Wellbeing mentors
Located in the Health and Wellbeing Centre, our Wellbeing Mentors provide a range of essential services and support to La Trobe students.
Who are we?
Wellbeing Mentors are Masters students on placements from other Universities. Mentors receive frequent and intensive supervision during their placement ensuring they provide evidence-based practice that is reflective of La Trobe University's high standards.
How do we work?
When you see a Wellbeing Mentor, we provide a safe space to support you with practical and therapeutic support. Contact can occur either face-to-face, virtually or by telephone. We work with you for the best course of action to help you with your concerns.
What can a Wellbeing Mentor help me with?
A Wellbeing Mentor can help you with the following:
- Short-term one-off wellbeing support, such as preparing for exam tips, study organisation ideas, overcoming procrastination or stress management tips.
- Case management support, such as referrals for students experiencing homelessness, or food aid.
- Up to 6 sessions of therapeutic support.
- Transitioning to university concerns and ideas on how to participate well in university life.
- Referral for external and community agencies, such as community sexual health clinics or community mental health services.
- Information, bookings and referrals to other wellbeing services within the University, such as counselling, Wellbeing Connect, Safer Community, LGBTIQA+ programs, Indigenous programs, Multifaith Spiritual Wellbeing, Men’s Wellbeing, Legal service and Financial counselling
When should you see a Wellbeing Mentor?
You should see a Wellbeing Mentor if you need the above support, or if you’re not sure what sort of wellbeing support you need. You can have a chat with us so we can understand what you might need, and with your guidance and permission, help you in the right direction.
