The La Trobe Leaders Program is a fantastic opportunity for you to make friends, build community and develop your leadership skills at La Trobe. As a La Trobe Leader you will help make the University a better place for all students by:

  • welcoming incoming students at orientation
  • mentoring your peers
  • developing and volunteering at a range of engagement activities held on campus throughout the year.

Plus, as a La Trobe Leader you will have access to a fabulous range of exclusive professional development workshops. Best of all, being a La Trobe Leader is fun!

The program is always open to new members and Leaders who participate and achieve across all elements of the program. La Trobe Leaders will receive recognition through the Career Ready Advantage Award and formal recognition as a La Trobe Leader on your academic transcript.

Getting started as a La Trobe Leader

All enrolled students at La Trobe University are welcome to be a member of the La Trobe Leaders Program. Once you have joined the program, you can continue as a La Trobe Leader until you graduate or opt out at any time.

How do I become a La Trobe Leader?

To join the La Trobe Leaders program, click 'Register now' and complete a few simple steps. You'll receive a red leaders polo shirt and be on your way to becoming a La Trobe Leader.

How it works:

La Trobe Leaders uses a service as leaders methodology of leadership development. The program is centered around three pillars (or types of activity). They are:

Pillar 1: Student Welcome

Activities may include:

  • Hosting Welcome to University and official events and parties
  • Answering new student questions during orientation
  • Leading campus tours during orientation and early weeks of semester
  • Creating and running fun activities in orientation
  • Hosting virtual social hours
  • Providing an early welcome for prospective students at Open Day and transition events

Pillar 2: Student Engagement

Activities may include:

  • Supporting in-semester engagement activities and events (virtual and/or in person)
  • Participating in University celebrations and events such as University mental health day, feel good festival, harmony day and more!
  • Creating fun events on campus such as scavenger hunts and leadership development days
  • Participating in graduation events
  • Showing off our campuses to visiting groups and delegations

Pillar 3: Student Mentorship

Activities may include:

  • Attending an online introduction and briefing
  • Participating in small group meet ups between mentors and mentees
  • Regularly connecting with a new student across the first six weeks of semester to help guide them and settle them into university life, utilising our GROW mentoring method
  • Providing advice and connection to international students via social media prior to arrival onshore helping them feel confident in their journey to Australia and La Trobe
  • Attending an end of program event as a wrap up and thank you
  • Creating student-based stories for My La Trobe
