Volunteers

Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary offers volunteer opportunities for both La Trobe University students and community members.

A limited number of volunteer positions are available for La Trobe students and the local community.

We ask volunteers to commit to a regular timeslot. Coming in frequently allows you to gain great exposure to skills and techniques relevant to your chosen area. Long term volunteering also gives you a greater diversity of experience as tasks change seasonally throughout the year.

Nursery

Nursery volunteers assist us in both the production and retail side of our indigenous nursery. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to indigenous plant identification and propagation techniques.

Land Management

Our volunteer crews work closely with our land management team to improve and maintain the habitat within the sanctuary. Tasks may include revegetation work and invasive species control.

Water Testing

Collect and identify aquatic macroinvertebrates and test for abiotic factors to help us monitor the health of the sanctuary wetlands.

Education

Learn how to manage students in the outdoors and engage them in the environment. Availability varies vary as they are dependent on school bookings.

Other opportunities

If you have a particular skill or area of interest that may be of interest, we'd love to hear from you.

How to Express Your Interest

  • Apply for a Working With Children Check (see below).

    • You must have your card before volunteering with us.
  • Complete the online Expression of Interest form. Not accepting new applications until 2025

  • We will contact you to arrange a time to discuss your availability and volunteer positions on offer.

  • Once you have been accepted as a volunteer, we will sent you up in our induction system Rapid Global.

Volunteering consideration

Some of our opportunities are project or season dependent. As such, our need for volunteers may change during the year.

Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary is not a registered volunteer organisation for the purposes of Centrelink mutual obligation requirements.

The Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary is not a zoo or wildlife park, we cannot offer any direct animal handling.

Thank you

We would like to thank all of you for showing interest in volunteering at the Wildlife Sanctuary. We would not be where we are today without the overwhelming support of the surrounding community. We hope to see you visiting the Sanctuary, and enjoying the natural resource we have all worked so hard to protect and nurture.
