Accepting an offer

Congratulations on being offered a place at La Trobe University. Here's how you can accept or defer your offer.

Before accepting your offer, you should read the Letter of Offer carefully and met any conditions mentioned.

You should also read the University policy on Refund of Tuition Fees.

How to accept your offer

  • Submit final documentation

Your first step is to send the necessary documentation to La Trobe International. This includes:

    • print and complete the Offer Acceptance form attached to your Letter of Offer
    • log in to the International Online Application System, select ‘Respond to Offer,’ and then ‘Accept Offer’
    • upload the signed Offer Acceptance form in the document box and follow through the prompts to accept the offer
    • provide certified evidence of meeting any conditions specified in your offer, where applicable.
  • Make payment

Your Letter of Offer contains important information, including annual indicative tuition fees. Once you’ve accepted your offer, you can pay via our International Online Application System.

Our online portal is a secure service that allows you to make your tuition fees and OSHC payments. You can use VISA/Mastercard, CIBC, Convera or Flywire (in your local currency, where available).

For more information on how to make your payment, please see our guides

    Payments for sponsored students

For sponsored students, please provide a financial guarantee from the sponsoring organisation by responding to the email from the Admissions team. Alternatively, upload the documentation via our International Online Application System. On your application, select ‘Actions’, and then ‘Upload new attachment for this application'.

The sooner you are able to make the necessary payment(s), the faster you will receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from us, which will help you apply for your student visa quicker.

  • Lodge your student visa application

Once you’ve submitted your documentation and payment, we’ll send you a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). This will enable you to apply for a student visa. We will also send you further pre-departure and enrolment information.

After accepting your offer, it's important you read our guides on preparing to arrive in Australia and what to do once you’ve arrived.

Important Information about deferring your offer

In most cases, you can defer the commencement of your course for a maximum of two semesters, or one year.

If you have accepted your offer and your student visa has been granted, deferring your course may affect your visa.

When submitting your deferral request, you must provide evidence of compassionate or compelling circumstances that are preventing you from enrolling in your course on time.

Deferrals for Graduate Research students

If you're a Higher Degree by Research (graduate research) student, a deferral may affect the availability of academic supervision and any scholarships awarded.

If you're a graduate research student, your deferral may need to be approved by the Board of Graduate Research. For more information, please email international.GRS@latrobe.edu.au.

Depending on your course, you may have the option to defer your offer for up to one year. This means we’ll hold a place for you to enrol in your course the following semester or year.

Deferment is open to most students: Coursework or research, international students are able to request to defer, though not all courses can be deferred. International students on a student visa can only defer subject to conditions outlined in the National Code.

As an international student visa holder, you may be eligible to transfer to another La Trobe course. Find out more about transferring to another course.

Transferring into a different course may affect your visa. The Department of Home Affairs will automatically be notified of the changes to your enrolment.

If your visa is valid for the duration of the new course, you don't need to apply for a visa extension.

You need to apply for a new visa if:

  • your visa does not cover the entire duration of the new course
  • you are intending to transfer to a course at a lower AQF level (for example, from a Bachelor Degree to a Diploma, or Masters to Bachelor Degree).

You need to ensure your passport is valid at all times while studying in Australia, and that you meet visa conditions at all times.

Please contact International Operations and Compliance and the Department of Home Affairs before making the change.

If you apply for a course transfer and are granted Advanced Standing, the course duration will be based on the number of credit points required to complete the course.

We recommend that you explore all your options before you decide to discontinue your studies. Find out more at withdrawing from your course.

Yes, you can. Your course duration will include any approved Advanced Standing (credit from your previous studies). Advanced Standing may reduce the number of subjects you need to do to successfully complete your course and potentially reduce the number of semesters you need to complete.
