Postgraduate fees and scholarships

You have options when it comes to paying for your postgraduate study. You may be eligible to receive a government HELP loan, our Alumni Advantage discount or one of many scholarships we are proud to offer.

This page includes information relevant to domestic students only. If you're an international student, see our International fees and scholarships page.

International fees and scholarships

Domestic course fees

Some postgraduate courses have Commonwealth supported places (CSPs) available. If you receive a CSP, you’ll receive a government subsidy. This means you only pay a proportion of the full fee – the government will pay the rest.

When CSPs are unavailable, postgraduate coursework students pay full fees. You may not need to pay these fees upfront. As a domestic postgraduate student, you may be eligible for an interest-free FEE-HELP loan from the government to cover your course fees.

The government also offers HECS-HELP loans to assist Commonwealth supported students to pay their course fees.

For more course fee information visit our postgraduate fees page. To find out more about CSPs, visit the government's StudyAssist website.

Income support for Master's Students (domestic)

If you’re enrolled in an approved Master’s by coursework program, you may be eligible to receive income support such as Youth Allowance, Austudy or the Pensioner Education Supplement. These supports are available for specific approved courses that meet the eligibility criteria set by the government.

This type of income support is available to domestic students only. International students are not eligible to apply.

To find out the eligibility criteria and list of approved courses, visit our Income Support for Master's Students (Domestic) page.

FEE-HELP and HECS-HELP loans

The government offers FEE-HELP and HECS-HELP loans that allow you to enrol in a university degree and pay no upfront fees. When you receive a FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP loan, the government pays your course fees for you. Once you begin earning over a certain amount, the government will begin deducting loan repayments from your salary.

Full-fee domestic students can apply for a FEE-HELP loan, while CSP domestic students can apply for a HECS-HELP loan.

Postgraduate FEE-HELP and HECS-HELP loans are interest-free, but they are indexed annually to keep up with inflation. This means the amount of the loan will increase in numeric terms; but in real terms, the value of the loan will stay roughly the same over time.

To find out more about FEE-HELP and HECS-HELP loans and eligibility, visit the government’s StudyAssist website.
