We’ve partnered with leaders in online learning to enhance your learning experience and outcomes.
Open Universities Australia (OUA)
La Trobe University and Open Universities Australia (OUA) have proudly partnered to deliver the Bachelor of Food and Nutrition.
Please see information about how to apply on the La Trobe University Credit (Advanced standing) webpage.
The Study Plan Guides tool is available to assist you when enrolling. If you are thinking about part-time study, you can talk to your course coordinator about a part-time enrolment sequence.
Students studying a La Trobe course via OUA enrol and withdraw subjects via the OUA Student Hub until the close of enrolment (See OUA Key dates). Instructions for enrolling via OUA can be found here.
Please note:
- OUA’s system only allows students to self-enrol into 3 subjects per study period. If you are studying a Semester-based course, please contact OUA to be enrolled into your fourth subject each semester.
- Before you withdraw from a subject, check that it is not a co-requisite of another unit that you are currently enrolled in.
- Before you add another subject, check that it is available in the study period required and that you meet any pre-requisites required.
You can search for electives via the OUA website and self-enrol.
If there is a subject available online at La Trobe that is not available for enrolment through OUA’s website, you can submit an enrolment request via ASK a Question. These subjects can be identified in the La Trobe Handbook, where they do not have the following special condition under the Enrolment Rules, ‘This subject is available through Open Universities Australia (OUA)’.
If you would like to undertake a subject offered by another OUA partner institution e.g. Griffith University, then follow the steps in the Outbound Cross-Institutional Study FAQ.
Pre-requisites are in place to support students in their learning. A waiver may be approved in certain circumstances at the discretion of the Subject Coordinator.
To request approval for pre-requisites, complete these steps:
- Contact your Subject Coordinator to request approval to enrol. See FAQ Subject and course coordinator details.
- If you get their written permission, submit your request via ASK a Question attaching the approval.
- Keep an eye on your La Trobe student email and personal email for updates from La Trobe and OUA.
Note: Pre-requisites cannot be waived for student’s studying single subjects via OUA.
Some of our partnership courses allow students to choose an area of interest that they would like to focus on by adding a major or minor (see FAQ Majors and minors). For example, a student studying a Bachelor of Business may choose to major in both Marketing and Management. If your course has an option to add a major or minor, OUA will gather this information as part of the application process.
Your area(s) of specialisation are displayed on your Dashboard in the OUA Student Hub. To request a change, click the ‘change my specialisation’ button which will prompt you to submit a written request.
LTU0AIM Academic Integrity Module and ABS0WOM Wominjeka La Trobe are compulsory online modules for students studying a La Trobe undergraduate degree (See the Compulsory modules FAQ for more information). Modules are completed via the Learning Management System (LMS).
La Trobe will enrol you into LTU0AIM and ABS0WOM approximately one week prior to the commencement of your first study period. It is recommended that you complete the modules prior to your first assessment and at the very latest prior to the final day of classes of your first enrolled study period to avoid a No Result Available (NRA) grade. If you need to amend your enrolment in the modules to a later study period or request to be re-enrolled in the modules, please submit a request via ASK a Question.
Check OUA’s key dates webpage to check all your important study dates, including census dates.
f you accepted an offer but now wish to commence your studies at a later date, and the census date for your first enrolled study period is still upcoming, please contact OUA to discuss your options.
You can apply for a Leave of Absence (up to 12 months depending on the circumstances) if you're experiencing significant difficulties in your personal or academic life – financial, emotional, medical, employment or study related.
Before taking leave
You should familiarise yourself with the Enrolment policy and procedures for taking an official Leave of Absence, specifically: Enrolment Procedure - Variations Part E.
A Leave of Absence may impact your study plan so please discuss your plans with a course advisor, an OUA Student advisor before you apply. You should find out whether taking leave will cause you to miss any prerequisite or core subjects which will delay your completion of the degree.
Refer to OUA’s Key Dates to assess whether you'll incur a financial and/or academic penalty. You should apply before the Census Date of your currently enrolled teaching period to avoid paying for your subjects.
The Leave of Absence form and instructions can be found on the OUA Student Hub under Change my studies >Take a leave of absence.
What happens after I apply for a Leave of Absence?
When you've submitted your completed Leave of Absence application, OUA will forward it to La Trobe University for review. La Trobe University processes your Leave of Absence application and sends a confirmation email to your La Trobe student email address.
Returning from leave
When your Leave of Absence is complete and you are ready to return to your studies, you can re-enrol via the OUA Student Hub.
Before you make your final decision to withdraw, discuss your plans with a course advisor, an OUA Student advisor or counselling or careers staff, as appropriate. They can help you to explore other options including taking a Leave of Absence instead.
Refer to OUA’s Key Dates to assess whether you'll incur a financial and/or academic penalty.
The Degree discontinuation form and instructions can be found on the OUA Student Hub under Change my studies>Discontinue my degree.
You will receive a confirmation email to your La Trobe student email address when your Degree Discontinuation form has been processed.
Your La Trobe username, student email address and temporary password are provided in the Account activation email sent to the personal email address you entered in your course application. Please check your junk/spam folder. If you cannot locate the email, please contact Student IT Support for assistance with setting up a new password.
You can use StudentOnline to:
- View your study plan and current enrolments (note: enrolments due to commence more than 8-weeks in the future may not display until closer to the study period start date)
- Submit a Request for an SA-HELP loan to defer your Student Services and Amenities Fee
- Pay your Student Services and Amenities Fee (if paying upfront)
- Check your results.
Subject content is available via the Learning Management System (LMS).
