Living in Mildura

Mildura is a regional city offering a laid-back lifestyle, coupled with a cosmopolitan atmosphere.

The region has long enjoyed a reputation as a tourism destination – staging fantastic events, so there's always something to do.

Location

Sitting on the border between Victoria and New South Wales, Mildura is only a short distance from South Australia as well. It houses one of the country's busiest regional airports, with flights to Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, making it an easily accessible regional city.

Mildura is situated in a fascinating part of the country. One of the world's most important archaeologist sites – Mungo National Park – is only 45 minutes down the road. La Trobe has a strong affiliation with Mungo; our archaeologists conduct world-class field work and research in the area.

Food and social life

Acknowledged as one of the country's food bowls, the district supplies Australia and the world with high-quality produce. Residents can take advantage of the local produce at the Sunraysia Farmers Market, or visit a cellar door of one of the many wineries. The city is known for its strong cafe culture, bars and world-class restaurants.

Economy

The Mildura region has an annual economic output of $6.321 billion, making it a thriving community for employment opportunities. Mildura City Heart is the central business district of the town and is a vibrant place for shopping and dining. There's also the Mildura Central shopping centre and it is home to many of the country's top retailers.

Culture

The community of Mildura is proudly multicultural, with 79 different nationalities officially recognised. Our student cohort is equally diverse. We have strong research collaborations with organisations such as Sunraysia Mallee Ethnic Communities Council, a demonstration of our commitment to diversity, inclusion and social justice.
