The La Trobe University Medical Centre provides medical services to students, staff and the community.

Medical Clinic/GP Services

The GP Clinic at La Trobe provides bulk billing for La Trobe University students and staff. International students with Overseas Health Cover (OSHC) card may also access these services at no additional cost.

The Medical Clinic services include:

  • general health services and regular medicals
  • sexual Health and STI checks including, contraceptive advice and counselling
  • advice and referrals for mental health issues such as anxiety and depression
  • health counselling and health promotion
  • vaccinations, special immunisations and travel medicine
  • skin care and mole checks and minor surgical procedures.

Medical Centre Team

Dr Lam graduated from Monash University in 1992 and transitioned directly into the field of General Practice, he has practiced in many locations both rural and metropolitan during his career.

Diabetes, heart disease and preventative health are special interests of Dr Lam’s.

Languages: Dr Lam is fluent in Cantonese.

Dr Alam graduated from Alexandria University School of Medicine in Egypt in 1982 and continued General medical training in USA after passing the board examination, working in Boston Beth Israel and New York Methodist Hospitals.

After moving to Australia in 1989 continued his general medicine training at Repatriation/Austin hospital, pursued his interest in Emergency medicine and critical care training, with interests in poisons and toxins.

In 2009 worked at Monash Medical Centre Paediatric emergency, followed by Austin Health.

In 2016 pursued his interests in community medicine and General practice, by joining the team at LCHS -Bundoora.

Languages: Dr Alam is fluent in Arabic, and speaks little French.

Dr Memon graduated from Sindh University in Pakistan in 1992 and transitioned directly into the field of General Practice, working in Victoria as a GP since 1999 he has practiced in both rural and metropolitan areas throughout his medical career.

Languages: Dr Memon is fluent in Sindhi, Hindi, Urdu and fully understands but does not speak Punjabi.

Graduating in Adelaide in 1977, Dr Yuen then worked overseas from 1980-2011 in the field of gynaecology and anaesthesia, upon returning to Australia he entered into Emergency Department work and General Practice.

Dr Yuen has a special interest in Paediatrics and Family Health.

Languages: Dr Yuen is fluent in Chinese language.

Dr Tanusha Cardoso is a specialist in sport and exercise medicine, and is accredited by the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians. Dr Cardoso previously worked at the Lifecare Latrobe Sports Medicine clinic and recently moved to the consulting rooms at the La Trobe University Medical Centre at La Trobe University.

Dr Cardoso offers her consulting services to the general public, the Australian Defence force, WorkCover and Transport Accident Commission (TAC) patients.

She enjoys the diversity of her specialty and has worked across many sports in terms of consultation and event coverage. They include the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020, the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the Arafura Games 2011, and the Alice Springs Masters Games (2010, 2012, 2014).

Dr Cardoso has worked at the Australian Institute of Sport, the Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre, the Ballarat Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine clinic, and the Melbourne Sports Medicine Centre.

Topics in her published research include tendinopathy, iron supplementation and AFL injuries.

Matt joins La Trobe University Medical Centre after working in private practice and orthopaedic hospitals in the local area. He also works with La Trobe University on a number of projects at the Sports and Exercise Medicine Research Centre and teaches in the university’s physiotherapy and podiatry courses.

Matt has an interest in the benefits of strength and conditioning for everyone – from athletes to beginners. He also has a keen interest in lower limb injuries and rehabilitation, as well as musculoskeletal and sports injuries. He uses skills developed from physiotherapy and podiatry to help individuals achieve their goals.

Matt has extensive experience in hip and knee osteoarthritis, having lectured on many courses and conferences in Australia and overseas. He has also worked closely with orthopaedic surgeons in the orthopaedic department at Warringal Private Hospital. Together with Tim Wilson, Matt provides the ‘GLA:D AU’ program, an evidence-based education and individualised exercise program for hip and knee osteoarthritis.

Matt also works as a health consultant for large businesses in the mining, manufacturing and transport industries. He helps managers and crew understand their tasks and loads better – to maximise their wellbeing, health and injury prevention strategies.

Tim graduated from the Lincoln Institute of Health Sciences in 1987 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Physiotherapy. He then worked at Hampton Rehabilitation Hospital where he developed a strong interest in helping people recover from injury and surgery with a ‘whole-person’ approach – a model he has followed since.

Tim moved to hold principal physiotherapist roles at Maristowe Private and Cliveden Hill Private hospitals. He simultaneously worked in private practice, treating various musculoskeletal injuries.

While serving as chief physiotherapist at La Trobe Private Hospital, Tim became a founding physiotherapist at the LaTrobe University Sports Medicine Clinic in 1999 – working closely with sports doctors, sports physicians, and the Northern Knights Football Club. In this role, he developed links with many orthopedic surgeons.

Tim has expertise in treating shoulder, hip, knee, foot, and ankle injuries.
