Department of Languages and Cultures partnerships
The Department of Languages and Cultures partners with a range of education, cultural and service organisations in Australia and internationally.
Together, we collaborate on teaching initiatives that give students opportunities for deep experiential learning, and research projects that contribute to our understanding of cultural expression, identity and cultural diversity.
Australian partnerships
We partner with a range of organisations, from city councils and education partners to community services organisations and community groups.
A sample of our teaching and research partnerships in Australia include:
Our partnership with Bendigo Art Gallery provides ongoing opportunities for students through alumni events and our gallery-based subject 'Exhibiting Culture’.
Our staff and students have opportunities to host, or appear as guests, on local community radio programs. The 3ZZZ local Greek radio program, for example, supports students to host episodes in Greek and English under the guidance of the radio station’s Greek program coordinator.
Our partnership gives students the opportunity to have their work presented at the FUSE autumn and spring festivals.
Pharos is a community-wide alliance working to revitalise Greek language education. La Trobe’s Greek Studies program is a member of Pharos, which is chaired by the Modern Greek Teachers’ Association of Victoria and facilitated by Professor Emeritus Joe Lo Bianco.
Our research partnership with this community legal centre explores the role of women’s agency and language in family violence intervention orders. Findings will inform strategies to improve women’s access to justice.
International partnerships
Our international partnerships enrich our teaching and research through cultural exchange.

The Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo/Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs partners with us to provide students with enhanced learning experiences through its Lector program. The program supports visiting language teachers to spend up to three years in our Department.
