Department of Community and Clinical Health facilities
The Department of Community and Clinical Health has facilities and clinics that support health and wellbeing education, research and practice.
Our students have access to a purpose-built telehealth facility, laboratory and practical workshop spaces, and public-facing clinics where they apply their knowledge and skills under the auspice of expert clinicians.
These facilities also support research that benefits both individuals and communities.

Our home simulation facility teaches students how to adapt a domestic environment using assistive devices such as bathroom aids, wheelchairs and hoists. Students develop a skills-based understanding of assistive devices and the factors they need to consider when prescribing equipment for home use.
The La Trobe Audiology Clinic provides services to the La Trobe community at the Bundoora campus. Services to the public were paused during COVID-19.
It is equipped with three soundproof suites specifically for audiology assessments, practical classes, simulations, and practical exams.
Students work under the direct supervision of highly qualified accredited and experienced clinicians and clinical educators.
It is part of our mission to ensure that students develop the competencies, skills, and experience they need to provide safe and effective audiology services to the community upon graduation.
The La Trobe Communication Clinic provides speech pathology to the community from the University’s Bundoora campus or via telehealth.
The clinic offers a range of evidence-based specialist services in voice, fluency (stuttering), and preschool speech and language.
It is equipped with ten clinical spaces with adjacent observation rooms for teaching purposes, and has access to the La Trobe Audiology Clinic's three soundproof suites specifically for audiology and voice assessments.
Clinical programs are delivered by students working under the direct supervision of highly qualified and experienced clinicians and clinical educators.

The La Trobe Eye Clinic provides high quality, affordable eye care services from the University’s Bundoora campus.
Students enrolled in our Bachelor of Orthoptics (Honours) work under the guidance of experienced clinicians. The hands-on experience their receive helps to develop essential clinical competencies before graduation.
The clinic delivers comprehensive, evidence-based services for children and adults with vision and eye movement disorders. It is equipped with contemporary vision testing equipment appropriate for all ages and developmental abilities.
The clinic has also developed a range of referral pathways within the community and a partnership with the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, where eligible patients are co-managed between the two services.

La Trobe's telehealth training facilities ensure best practice training for allied health and nursing students, and better equip clinicians undertaking professional development.
The facility features a telehealth audiovisual setup including microphone, cameras, display screens and computers; technology to stream or record video for larger groups of students or professionals; and mobile telehealth hardware to allow for high quality offsite telehealth consultations.
