We run training courses to assist performance on the HSK and HSKK tests. The training courses are aligned with HSK and HSKK testing dates and application deadlines for Confucius Institute scholarships, both usually falling in early May, with our training courses running
from March.
What is the HSK?
The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) is China's national standardised test of Chinese language proficiency for non-native speakers. The test is a certificate of language proficiency for higher education and professional purposes.
The HSK assesses non-native Chinese speakers' abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives. HSK consists of six levels, namely the HSK (level I), HSK (level II), HSK (level III), HSK (level IV), HSK (level V), and HSK (level VI).
A HSK and HSKK score are a priority criterion for accessing scholarships to study in China.
Test Levels
The levels of the new HSK correspond to the levels of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages (CLPS) and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF) as follows:

What is the HSKK?
The Hanyu Shuiping Kouyu Kaoshi (HSKK) is the standardised oral test, or speaking test, that aims to test the speakers' ability in spoken Chinese. It is the oral test of HSK.
Both the HSK and HSKK are a prerequisite when applying for Confucius Institute scholarship to study in China.
Test Levels
The HSKK consists of three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
Beginner: It is the counterpart of the Level I and Level II of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and the A Level of theCommon European Framework of Reference (CEF). Test takers who are able to pass the HSK Speaking Test (Beginner Level) can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and meet specific needs for communication.

Intermediate: It is the counterpart of the Level III and Level IV of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and the B Level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF). Test takers who are able to pass the HSK Speaking Test (Intermediate Level) can understand intermediate Chinese and converse fluently with native Chinese speakers.

Advanced: It is the counterpart of the Level V of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and the C Level of theCommon European Framework of Reference (CEF). Test takers who are able to pass the HSK Speaking Test (Advanced Level) can understand spoken Chinese and fluently express their ideas in Chinese.

HSK Training Fees
The Confucius Institute at La Trobe University runs training courses to assist performance on the HSK test. The training courses are aligned with HSK testing dates and application deadlines for Confucius Institute scholarships, both usually falling in early May, with our training courses running from March.

The fees charged depends on the group sizes for training courses. This will be one-on-one or small group tutorials (CI is offering promotional rate for 2019) (Prepayment for 5 sessions is required before the commencement of the tutorials)
- 1 person $25 per hour per person
- 2-4 people$20 per hour per person
HSK training course participants will be placed in groups, dependent upon demand, with persons at similar competency levels. A course of study will be determined based on the assessed gaps for successfully performing in the HSK test.
