Advanced Chinese
- Prerequisite: Anyone who has finished the Intermediate Chinese course or has an equivalent level of Chinese proficiency.
- Duration: 12 weeks
- Textbook: Standard Course HSK3 (Standard Course HSK4 for Advanced Plus course)
The course is designed for those who have completed Chinese for Intermediate level or have attained an equivalent level of proficiency. Its primary aim is to provide students with a working understanding of, and familiarity with, Chinese language and culture. Students will continue to build their language knowledge with more complex grammatical structures and expressions. Students will also improve reading comprehension and conversational skills.
Learning Outcomes
(Speaking and Listening)
After completing the Advanced Chinese course, you will be able to:
- Organise an idea clearly, and use a range of basic cohesive devices accurately.
- Discuss a variety of topics beyond day to day survival.
- Understand normal speed Chinese dialogues on everyday life topics.
(Reading and Writing)
After completing the Advanced Chinese course, you will:
- Recognize 600 Chinese characters.
- Choose proper structures and sentence patterns in writing tasks.
(Chinese Culture)
After completing this course, you will deepen your understanding of Chinese culture and history, customs and social etiquette, value systems, and current affairs.

Assessment
- No formal assessment will be conducted. You will receive consistent feedback from the instructor regarding your learning progress. You will receive an official Confucius Institute Completion Certificate at the end of each level (80% of the attendance is required for this Certificate)
- After completing our courses, you may be able to enrol in HSK4 (Chinese Language Proficiency Test Band Four) to test your Chinese language proficiency. This may lead you to apply for scholarships to study in China.
