Scholarships and awards
Definitions of scholarships, bursaries and prizes.
Scholarships
A scholarship is a payment each semester of study for your course. Scholarships are:
- paid after each semester's census date
- awarded based on access or merit
- a sum of money given twice yearly to support students in their studies
- paid to commencing or continuing students
- funded by the University or an external donor.
Bursaries
A bursary is a one-off payment given to provide aid to students on a needs basis. Bursaries are:
- awarded to support academic studies
- paid to commencing or continuing students
- awarded based on access and participation criteria, academic merit, meeting an industry need, or a combination of all three
- funded by the University or an external donor.
Prizes
A prize is a reward for merit achieved for the highest academic performance. Prizes are:
- a one-off payment or other reward given in recognition of academic results
- only given to continuing students
- funded by the University or an external donor.
Barrie Winzar Memorial Bursary $2,500
Two x one-off $2,500 bursaries available. Awarded to one second year and one third year student who displays academic merit with preference given to students from specific areas around Fosterville. Applications are open now until 28 January 2025.
Three x one-off $1,000 bursaries available. Awarded to one first year, one second year and one third- or fourth-year community-minded undergraduate student, from the Eaglehawk area, and enrolled at the Bendigo campus. Donated by the Davey Family. Applications are open now until 28 January 2025.
Flo Robinson Memorial Education Scholarship 2 x $5,000 per year
Awarded to financially support two female disadvantaged students who are enrolled in Masters of Teaching (Primary) or Masters of Teaching (Secondary) at Bendigo Campus. Applications are closed for 2025.
Leslie Kilmartin Regional Bursary 2 x $1,000
Awarded to financially support two continuing disadvantaged undergraduate Education students enrolled at the Bendigo Campus. Applications are closed for 2025.
Westate Social Work Bursary $1,000
Awarded to financially support a continuing disadvantaged Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) or Bachelor of Human Services/Master of Social Work student enrolled at the Bendigo Campus. Applications are closed for 2025.
The following prizes and bursaries will be offered in 2025 but there is no need for students to apply. These prizes are based on academic merit.
Information Technology Professional Prize $500
Awarded for academic merit to an outstanding Master of Information Technology student.
Kylie Morrow Memorial Bursary $1,000
Awarded for academic merit to a second or third year Bachelor of Arts (online) student living in the Bendigo area. Donated by the Morrow Family.
Lorna Cohn Memorial Pharmacy Bursary $1,000
Awarded to the student with the highest academic score across all subjects in the honours year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy.
Mark Harrington Memorial Prize $500
Awarded for academic merit to a Bachelor of Information Technology student who has successfully completed the first year of the degree and is proceeding into the second year.
Penfold Biomedical Sciences Bursary $1,000
Awarded for academic merit to a Bachelor of Biomedical Science student who has successfully completed the first year of the degree and is proceeding into the second year.
Robert C Clark Memorial Bursary 2 x $1,000
Awarded to support two outstanding students undertaking the Bachelor of Arts. One award of $1,000 will be given to a second year student who completed first year in 2024. The other $1,000 award will be given to a third year student who completed second year in 2024.
T.A. McLelland Memorial Bursary $1,000
Awarded to the student who has demonstrated academic excellence in any year of the Bachelor of Science.
