Jane Hamilton
Jane Hamilton is a Professor of Accounting, holding a PhD from Monash University and a Master of Accountancy from the University of New England.
Jane has been associated with La Trobe University for more than 30 years, having first studied at the Bendigo campus as an undergraduate student (when it was known as the Bendigo College of Advanced Education), before later joining the staff as a tutor in 1989 and working her way up.
Between 2000 and 2005, Jane took an opportunity to join Sydney’s University of Technology to build her research experience and exposure, before returning to La Trobe.
In April 2018, Jane was appointed as Dean and Head of La Trobe’s Business School and has been instrumental in developing the Business School’s new strategy and future direction. In doing so, she has focussed on building on the Business School’s strengths and providing quality education that equips students for the new world of work.
Prior to her promotion, Jane was Associate Head of the Business School and had responsibility for regional campus operations, international partnerships and third-party teaching.
Jane sees herself as a beneficiary of regional education, and as a consequence, deeply values La Trobe University’s presence in and commitment to the regions. She says, “Bendigo Campus gave me an opportunity for an education. If that campus wasn’t there, it is highly doubtful that I would have been able to get my degree as I was not in a position to go to Melbourne to Study.”
