Nursing climbs in top 100 ranking

Nursing at La Trobe University has increased its position in the world’s top 100 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.

The subject has jumped to the 51-75 band from 76-100 in 2017. Hospitality and Tourism Management is also placed in the 51-75 band of the prestigious Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2018.

Education has risen into the top 200 (from top 300 in 2017) and Agricultural Sciences remains in the top 200.

La Trobe Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar said these results are a strong indicator of La Trobe’s strong and growing presence on the world stage.

“Our academics are spearheading research and innovation across the spectrum of subject areas, from social and medical sciences to life sciences and engineering,” Professor Dewar said.

“This pioneering research is advancing knowledge, boosting the economy and improving lives.”

In total, 15 subjects are ranked in the top 500 this year, up on 13 subjects last year:

Top 100 – Nursing (51-75); Hospitality and Tourism Management (51-75)

151-200 – Agricultural Sciences; Education

201-300 – Communications; Psychology; Biological Sciences

301-400 – Ecology; Clinical Medicine; Public Health; Economics; Political Sciences; Business Administration

401-500 – Computer Science & Engineering; Human Biological Sciences

La Trobe ranks in the top 400 overall in all three major international ranking measures –ARWU (Shanghai Rankings), QS and Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
