There has again been strong interest in La Trobe University’s courses, including criminology and biomedicine, which are new to some of the University’s regional campuses.
There has also been high demand for the University’s career-ready qualifications. The courses with the largest total number of offers made up to the main round are Nursing (838), Arts (401), Health Sciences (391), Criminology (271) and Business (235).
For La Trobe courses where selection of students is based on ATAR, highlights included:
* Health Sciences in Dentistry/Dentistry - lowest offered Selection Rank of 98.9. Dentistry is offered at the University’s Bendigo campus and has one of Victoria’s highest rankings
* Bachelor of Applied Science/Physiotherapy Practice - lowest offered Selection Rank of 96.75
* Bachelor of Law/Arts - lowest offered Selection Rank of 90.6
La Trobe University Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Kerri-Lee Krause said the University would continue to make VTAC offers in subsequent rounds. She said while it was still early days, these VTAC offers, when combined with direct applications, postgraduate coursework enrolments and pathways into the University such as the innovative TAFE dual enrolment program, meant La Trobe University was on track to meet 2018 growth targets.
“I congratulate our new 2018 students on their offer to study at La Trobe University. We are delighted to offer you the opportunity to study at one of Victoria’s top universities,” Professor Krause said.
“Our primary focus is to ensure a challenging and rewarding experience for all our students, with a dual emphasis on maintaining high standards within our degree programs, and a focus on inclusion and diversity. This includes many students who would otherwise not have had an opportunity to access all the career benefits of higher education.”
“Our new students have chosen a University that is highly rated by employers for preparing students for the world of work,” Professor Krause said. “Australian employers have rated La Trobe University graduates second among Victorian universities and eighth nationally for overall satisfaction in the recent Employer Satisfaction Survey (ESS).”
“In a new era of Federal Government funding policy, we are taking a long-term strategy of managed growth, focusing on the degrees distinctive to La Trobe University, supporting students to become career ready and strengthening our partnerships with industry and employers,” she said.
The University has re-confirmed its commitment to regional Victoria, with a strong emphasis on developing courses across its Bendigo, Shepparton, Albury-Wodonga and Mildura campuses that address local industry needs.
The recently commissioned independent Cadence Economics report showed that the majority (72%) of students who graduate from the University’s regional campuses go on to live and work in regional Victoria, contributing almost $100 million per year to Victoria’s gross regional product.
Other 2018 VTAC highlights include:
* The lowest offered Selection Rank for 56 La Trobe University courses has increased this year.
* 12 La Trobe University courses recorded a lowest offered Selection Rank at or above 90.
Professor Krause said enrolment into some La Trobe University courses was still possible, and welcomed anyone still interested in 2018 study to contact the University.
