Announced last night, the University has moved into the top 350 universities in the world, positioned at 341.
Moving into the 301-350 rank band from the 351-400 band last year, its global positioning has increased by 51 ranks (from 392 to 341).
In Victoria La Trobe now ranks joint third and has risen in national rank, now placing 18th in Australia.
La Trobe Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar said a key contributor to the rankings success was a marked improvement in research impact.
“This fantastic result in one of the top global rankings reflects La Trobe’s energy and ambition in conducting pioneering research which is attracting exceptional academics from across the globe,” Professor Dewar said.
“With high impact research in diverse areas, from mobile cloud computing and global health studies to cell death and wheat genetics, our researchers are making new discoveries and pushing the boundaries of knowledge.”
Professor Dewar said that providing an outstanding student experience also contributed to these rankings.
"Providing an enriching student experience is at the heart of everything we do; this ranking reflects our focus on developing our students to succeed in the workforce when they graduate, through innovative initiatives such as our Career Ready program.”
La Trobe is ranked in the top 400 universities worldwide by all three major independent rankings agencies: the ARWU ranks the University 317th globally while the 2018 QS World University Rankings ranks La Trobe 397 in the world.
