The Melbourne City Women’s team secured its second successive championship win defeating Perth Glory 2-0 last night in front of a record crowd at NIB stadium last night.
The win sets the club up for what could be a remarkable clean sweep of trophies this season if the men’s team can claim the A-League. Melbourne City currently holds the FFA Cup, National Youth League and W-League titles.
La Trobe Vice Chancellor Professor John Dewar said the club’s success was a credit to its great culture and investment in all its playing groups.
“It was fantastic to see the Melbourne City Women’s team achieve another title,” Professor Dewar said.
“The university is proud to have a long-term partnership with such a professional organisation and an industry leader like the Melbourne City Football Club.
“We look forward to seeing our partnership go from strength to strength throughout 2017 and beyond.”
Professor Dewar said La Trobe University was proud to have its branding on the back of the women’s team playing jerseys. The partnership also provides students and researchers with unique industry insights, collaborative work opportunities and industry connections.
The City Football Group’s Melbourne arm is located at La Trobe’s Bundoora campus. The campus hosts the club’s headquarters, training pitches, an Elite Women’s Training Facility and world class medical and sports science facilities.
“We are proud to host Melbourne City’s leading sports facilities. In the future, La Trobe will also be home to a new world-first Sports Park for community and elite sports users and researchers, Professor Dewar said.
