La Trobe University Senior Lecturer and biochemist, Dr Julian Pakay, recently won the 2024 Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology SDR Scientific Education Award for his contributions to teaching quantitative literacy in biomedical science. His work in this area culminated in the La Trobe eBureau open educational resource Foundations of Biomedical Science: Quantitative Literacy Theory and Problems.
“I am very thankful for the support I have received from my colleagues and La Trobe University in general with this project. It represents a long journey focusing on building quantitative literacy skills in both commencing and continuing students and has allowed us to develop interventions in our curriculum and resources like this”, Julian says.
“It has been a fantastic experience to partner with the La Trobe eBureau on this project. They have been incredibly supportive, knowledgeable, and they have been a continual source for creative ideas and solutions to problems.”
The La Trobe eBureau works with academics to create high-quality resources for online and blended subjects, adopted by academic institutions around the world, granting our authors international recognition.
