National Archaeology Week is an annual celebration of archaeology in Australia.
Established in 2003, the week-long festival raises public awareness about the research undertaken in Australia and by Australian archaeologists overseas. It includes workshops, demonstrations and presentations to the public, students and teachers.
This year, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Aboriginal Corporation is collaborating with La Trobe’s Department of Archaeology and History to deliver two workshops on the deep time Australian story using cultural and archaeological lenses.
Teaching deep time: Culture
This hybrid workshop will be held on Wednesday 22 May 2024, 4-6 pm AEST.
The Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation education team will explore the Year 7 Australian Curriculum Unit, ‘Deep time history of Australia.’
The workshop will focus on cultural competency in the classroom and object-based learning.
The first hour will be held online and in-person at La Trobe’s Bundoora campus. The second hour will be restricted to in-person participants, with a hands-on workshop using cultural objects.
This workshop meets APST Standard 2 and Standard 6, and is suitable for both pre-service and in-service teachers.
