“Caring for children is at the heart of our practice”
story
I studied human services and social work and am now employed as a family support practitioner at Anglicare Victoria.
Caring for children is at the heart of our practice and my work is diverse, holistic and all-inclusive.
I align strongly with the agency’s commitment to strengths-based practice, which is embedded in our work with transforming the futures of children, young people,
adults and families.
I am continually learning, evolving, experiencing, reflecting and inspired.

“We have a great rapport with paramedics on the road”
story
La Trobe has provided so many opportunities for me to build relationships with paramedics, and other professionals working in the medical and emergency services industries.
During my clinical placements I’ve been out on the road with both Ambulance Victoria and the Queensland Ambulance Service. I feel like we are really respected as students, and we have a great rapport with paramedics on the road. You can just tell that that La Trobe has built a great reputation within the industry over the years.
Our recent major incident exercise days were an AWESOME experience. This year they involved a simulated train crash with 160 patients, and then simulated plane crash involving around 200 passengers. It was great to meet the other experts who came in to support the exercises and use it as training themselves. We worked with professionals from the State Emergency Service (SES), the Victorian Medical Assistance Team and staff from the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit and Field Emergency teams from Bendigo Health.
The debrief sessions during and after the scenarios gave us a chance to discuss what their roles are, and what that means for us as paramedics in a range of situations. It helped build our relationships with them, and learn how we can all work together at major incidents.
The other highlight of my time at La Trobe was my clinical placement in the USA. Five of us spent two weeks with the Gold Cross Ambulance service who are attached to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Gold Cross provide an amazing service and are involved in loads of cutting edge research. It was exciting to see how research findings get rolled out into paramedic practice. I feel so lucky that La Trobe has developed a relationship with them over the years. It was a trip of a lifetime.
