International Nurses Day and International Day of the Midwife celebration event - Mildura

To mark International Nurses Day and International Day of the Midwife, La Trobe University invites you to a celebration event on campus.

You'll have an opportunity to network, hear from a panel of nurses and midwives about their career journeys and listen to a thought provoking and inspiring discussion.

Students attending on the day will have a chance to win a stethscope!

This event will be a great opportunity for University and TAFE students to network with local industry and future employers.

Coffee and a breakfast canapes by Verdict Catering will be provided.  Registrations essential!

The panel:

Professor Helen McLachlan - Discipline Lead for Midwifery in La Trobe's School of Nursing and Midwifery and a Registered Nurse and Midwife. Helen will share more about her research that revealed maternity care for First Nations mothers can be improved through access to culturally safe continuity of midwifery care: Closing the gap in maternity care

Lucas Lloyd - Director of Critical Care Services at Mildura Base Public Hospital. Lucas is a La Trobe alum, having studied a Bachelor of Nursing and Graduate Certificate in Perioperative Nursing . Lucas also holds a Master's Degree in Clinical Leadership and is currently undertaking a Doctor of Nursing with La Trobe University, looking at older people with palliative care needs who present to a rural ED and their care journeys.

Crystal Kirby - Practice Manager - Health Services at Mallee District Aboriginal Services. Crystal is a Registered Nurse and has held previous roles as a District Nurse, Allied Health Coordinator and Chronic Disease Coordinator. She has worked in numerous roles, all within her community in Mildura, Robinvale and Coomealla. Through her work at MDAS, Crystal says " I strive to continue my work in increasing access to services and quality care and to advocate, on all levels, to improve the health of our mob."

Kylie Cawley - Dual Diagnosis Nurse at Sunraysia Community Health Services. Kylie is a proud Palawa Kani women, born in Lutruwita (Tasmania) but has spent a large part of her life on Latji Latji Country. After completing her Bachelor of Nursing in 2017, she embarked on her journey in the Drug and Alcohol/Mental Health field. Kylie is on track to complete her Diploma of Counselling later this year. This style of community nursing aligns perfectly with her as she is genuinely passionate about self-advocacy, self-determination, celebrating cultures and human kindness.
