The La Trobe University Art History Alumni Chapter was formed by graduates of La Trobe's Art History program in April 1997. Anyone with an interest in art is welcome to join, particularly current and former La Trobe Visual Arts students.
Participate in a range of activities including visits to artist studios and workshops, lectures including our annual Rae Alexander Lecture, tours to public and private galleries, discussions with art industry experts, and social gatherings with fellow members.

- The 2022 Art History Alumni Chapter and La Trobe Art Institute Visual Arts Prize was awarded to Jack Johns
This Prize is awarded to a third-year or Honours student enrolled in the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Arts) at the Bendigo campus as an acknowledgement of their achievements. It consists of a $1,000 gift from the Art History Alumni Chapter and a year-long mentorship from a senior curator at the LAI.
With this prize the Art History Alumni Chapter and LAI aims to provide a Visual Arts student with tangible support for their future career aspirations. The mentorship is to support the student’s [artist’s] career development, enhance their professional growth and provide networking opportunities.
During 2017, La Trobe University’s Art History Alumni Chapter gathered data and oral histories to create an online historical record of Art History at La Trobe.
Over La Trobe’s 50-year history, the Art History department has produced many world class curators, educators, researchers and writers.
This project was supported by a grant from the Pitch Your Project committee for the 50 Years of La Trobe Celebrations. The history has been researched and written by Livia Kenney.
We'd love to hear about your experience of Art History at La Trobe. To add to the story, or for any amendments, email us.
