The High Street campus, situated inside the new Bendigo Bank Development in the Wallan Town Heart, will provide an exciting opportunity for those living in and around the area to have access to quality training and career support services.
La Trobe University Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar said La Trobe is proud of its commitment to providing study options for regional students.
“Our partnership with GOTAFE in Shepparton is a great example of how we provide successful pathway options to tertiary study locally,” Professor Dewar said.
“The strengthening of this partnership through the new Wallan campus will build on this and provide opportunities for local students with access to La Trobe’s courses and facilities,” he said.
GOTAFE Chief Executive Travis Heeney said the expansion into Wallan is a natural progression given GOTAFE’s regional footprint in the Hume corridor.
“The new Wallan Campus is critical to GOTAFE providing the skills and training necessary to meet the growing industry demand as the population expands over the coming years,” Mr Heeney said.
Over recent months, GOTAFE has been consulting with the local industry and community to understand the critical workforce and skills needs for the region.
It is hoped that for 2020 courses will be offered across a range of areas including community services, early childhood care, allied health, business, hospitality and management.
The campus will also play host to a dedicated Skills and Jobs Centre, a one-stop-shop for anyone looking for career planning advice.
Careers Advisors can perform an expert skills assessment, share job hunting tips, and provide advice to anyone looking to up-skill or re-skill through professional training.
