2023 Moving for Mental Health

The Moving for Mental Health Challenge is a health-based initiative focused on raising awareness for mental health issues as well as fostering a sense of community and support within our staff, students and the wider community.

THE GOAL

The Moving for Mental Health Challenge is a health-based initiative focused on raising awareness for mental health issues as well as fostering a sense of community and support within our staff, students and wider community.

By coming together we hope to make a meaningful impact and spread awareness about the effects of mental health as well as the positive effects movement can have on these issues.

THE CAUSE

R U OK? is a public health promotion that contributes to suicide prevention efforts by encouraging people to invest more time in their personal relationships and building the capacity of informal support networks (friends, family and colleagues) to be alert to those around them, have a conversation if they identify signs of distress or difficulty and connect someone to appropriate support long before they're in crisis.

THE CHALLENGE

We are raising the challenge to the Team La Trobe Community over 6 weeks from July 31st - September 7th to set a weekly movement challenge (or follow one of our custom training guides below to download) to help raise awareness for mental health conditions as well as promote the benefits of daily movement on our mental and physical health.

You can sign up as individuals and join the Team La Trobe Team or sign up with your community and raise funds as a collective.

We will also running weekly challenges via the La Trobe Sport app as a way to help motivate our community to keep up with their peers and get to the top of our leaderboards.

THE FINALE

What is this all building to? Our marquee wellness and movement event, the Team La Trobe Walk and Run, being hosted at our Melbourne (Thursday 7 September) and Bendigo (Tuesday 5 September) campuses!

This is our community's time to shine with a 2.5km and 5km walk or run taking place to raise awareness for the R U OK? Foundation, as well as loads of prizes for our respective championships and individual prizes on the day as well!

Post the event, we will be co-hosting an awards ceremony on each campus with a guest speaker from one of our sporting partnerships to speak on mental health and award our fundraising champions!
