On March 13 – 17, 2023, Victorian universities are working together to promote the importance of respect, equality and inclusion on our campuses, in online spaces, and in our communities.
Together, the Respect at Uni campaign demonstrates a joint commitment to the prevention of sexual harm and other forms of gender-based violence.
Our university communities should be safe and free from violence. The National Student Safety Survey has revealed universities must continue to improve their response to and prevention of sexual harassment and sexual assault.
Students and staff at all Victorian universities are invited to participate in the upcoming Respect Week activities.
You can join online events from universities across Victoria, download and share resources and get involved on campus. We can all contribute to creating a culture of respect, now and always.

Launch of the Sexual Harm Prevention and Response Action Plan, 2023 – 2026
La Trobe University is dedicated to creating an environment where people can work, study, and live without being sexually harassed or experiencing violence because of their gender or sexuality. We believe everyone in our community has a role to play in eliminating gender-based violence and sexual harm.
We are proud to launch the La Trobe Sexual Harm Prevention and Response Action Plan during Respect Week 2023.
The La Trobe Sexual Harm Prevention and Response Action Plan guides our work together to ensure we promote respectful relationships, improve institutional structures and practices, and challenge harmful behaviors, norms, and attitudes in our community.
This plan responds to the 2022 National Student Safety Survey results for La Trobe and builds on La Trobe’s successful implementation of the recommendations from the Australian Human Rights Commission’s 2017 Change the Course Report.
Join us for the official online launch of the Sexual Harm Prevention and Response Action Plan. Hosted by the Respectful Communities team, the event will feature a panel discussion with:
- Professor Jessica Vanderlelie (Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Students)
- Dr Melissa Graham (Head of Department, Public Health)
- Ryan Hsu (Senior Manager Strategy, Prevention and Education, Division of Health, Wellbeing and Inclusion)
- Belinda O’Connor (Manager Prevention & Strategy, Rainbow Health Australia).
