Victorian Youth Parliament is your chance to influence decision making

If you have an interest in civil and legal change, here’s your chance to make an impact from one of the most influential positions in the state – the chambers of Victorian Parliament House.

The Victorian Youth Parliament is run by Y Victoria and is an opportunity for 120 Victorians aged 16-25 to have a real influence on decision making in the state. Applications for the 2025 program are now open!

Next year will mark the 39th Victorian Youth Parliament and continues the program’s legacy of being the longest running annual state forum for young people to call for change in the state of Victoria.

Bills will be introduced into the Youth Parliament, debated and voted on during the sitting week held in the chambers of Parliament House, Victoria. At the end of the sitting week, all Youth Parliament Bills that passed are officially handed to the Minister for Youth to be disseminated to the relevant state Members of Parliament.

In addition to debates, Victorian Youth Parliamentarians will engage in a range of personal and professional development sessions during the residential camps, run according to experiential learning principles.

Over 60 Youth Parliament Bills have been adopted into current state legislation since the program’s inception in 1986. These include Bills on social issues, safety, education, environment and more!

To name a few, laws which mandate the wearing of bicycle helmets and the banning of lightweight plastic bags originated from past participants in the program.

Places are highly sought after, so don’t miss out. Applications for the 2025 program close on 5pm Friday 11 October 2024.
