STEM Sisters is a community dedicated to empowering women of colour (WOC) in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). See below opportunities available to La Trobe students.

Ambassador Program – Expressions of interest now open

This prestigious leadership opportunity is available to women of colour students and early-career researchers. Ambassadors serve as advocates for diversity in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), participating in outreach initiatives, events and professional development activities.

Why apply?

Many of our ambassadors have gone on to receive scholarships, land graduate roles and step into leadership positions in industry and academia.

STEM Sisters Mentoring Program – Expressions of interest now open

This 12-week structured mentoring program supports women of colour in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and runs from 7 July to 26 September 2025. It connects them with experienced professionals (both women of colour and allies) who are committed to creating an inclusive, empowering STEM community.

Expression of interests will close 15 May 2025.

Who can apply

  • Mentors
    We welcome academic staff, professional staff, researchers, and alumni across Australia
  • Mentees
    Open to current STEM students based in Victoria, including La Trobe campuses.

Soapbox Science 2025 – Call for speakers & volunteers

Soapbox Science transforms public spaces into arenas of scientific engagement. We are calling on women and non-binary STEM researchers and students to take the stage and communicate their science directly to the public – no slides, no screens, just stories and passion.
