La Trobe University, Home of the Matildas, will host its first major international tournament early next month when the 2023 IFCPF Asia-Oceania Championships arrive in Melbourne.
Kicking off on 4 November and culminating in the Championship Finals on 11 November, the 2023 Men’s and Women’s IFCPF Asia-Oceania Championships will see the Australian CommBank Pararoos (Men’s) and ParaMatildas (Women’s) go head-to-head with the best para football teams from the Asia-Pacific region.
The CommBank Pararoos and CommBank ParaMatildas are Australia’s national teams for footballers with cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury or symptoms of stroke. The two national teams represent 4.4 million Australians living with disability, with this tournament providing an opportunity to celebrate and raise awareness of the ability of para footballers to create a new generation of Australian sporting heroes.
La Trobe University is proud to support the CommBank Pararoos and CommBank ParaMatildas through the establishment of the Home of the Matildas precinct at the La Trobe University Sports Park. Opened earlier this year, prior to the Australian CommBank Matildas’ amazing performance during the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, this world-class precinct is a reflection of the University’s excellence in sports education and the deep commitment to promoting sport and healthcare through outstanding teaching and research.
All matches during the 2023 IFCPF Asia-Oceania Championships will be played and hosted at the Home of the Matildas precinct, with La Trobe students and staff encouraged to support our national teams and get their first look at the world-class sporting facilities located on our Bundoora campus.
Tickets for the 2023 IFCPF Asia-Oceania Championships are now on sale with ticket prices starting at $10 for Children (aged 4 – 18), $15 for Concession, $20 for Adults and $50 for a family.
The CommBank Pararoos and CommBank ParaMatildas will feature in the opening day of match action on Saturday 4 November, as the men’s team faces Thailand (5.15 pm AEDT) and the women’s team opens their campaign against Japan (3 pm AEDT).
The Finals will kick off on Friday 10 November with the Women’s Final, followed by the Men’s Final on Saturday 11 November 2023.
