Writers on Campus: Writing beginnings

March 25 @ 12:30 pm 1:15 pm

How do you become a writer? Where do you start?

This month, as part of the Writers on Campus series, we explore the experiences and possibilities of writers starting out:

  • Learning the craft
  • Developing ideas
  • Experimenting with style
  • Finding the form and voice that works for you
  • Refining your skills
  • Drafting and redrafting
  • Taking the first steps towards publication

To help us explore the opportunities and challenges, author and creative writing lecturer, Catherine Padmore, will talk with two La Trobe postgraduate researchers and writers:

Tara Calaby, whose debut novel was part of her PhD project and published to acclaim two years ago

Louise Falconer, who recently submitted her PhD and passed with flying colours and is on the board of Writers Victoria, supporting emerging writers.

All three speakers have had great success in publishing short fiction and nonfiction in a range of media and genres and taking different paths to creating a writing life.

We invite students, staff and members of the public to join.
