We are making a second call for nominations to Academic Board from postgraduate students from a regional campus.
What is Academic Board?
Academic Board is the primary body for academic governance and decision-making at the University. The Board is established under legislation and provides advice to the Vice-Chancellor and University Council on issues that affect academic excellence. It provides a forum for information and debate within the University and is responsible for policy on matters such as admissions, assessment, teaching, student conduct, research and academic promotion. Academic Board reports directly to Council.
Membership of the Board includes senior academic leaders of the University, elected staff members and student representatives. The president of the student union, association or representative body of each campus (or their nominee) is a member of the board, as well as five student members and one higher degree by research candidate who are elected annually.
What does it take to be a student member?
Firstly, don’t worry if you haven’t been involved in student politics before. It’s not a prerequisite.
Ask yourself: Have you been on a student advisory group? Perhaps you’re a Peer Learning Advisor with a finger on the pulse of the student population? Maybe you’re a passionate student at a regional campus who wants to make sure the voices of your peers are heard? These are all relevant perspectives to bring to Academic Board.
What is the role of a student member?
As a member of Academic Board, you will join in on the discussion and debates for policy on matters such as admissions, assessment, teaching, student conduct, research and research training.
The Term of Office for Academic Board is twelve months and will commence from 1 January 2025. Successful candidates will be inducted, and provided with information and mentorship support ahead of their first meeting.
How do I nominate?
Complete the online nomination form by 5.00 pm Wednesday 6 November 2024.
If more than one nomination is received for any of the positions then an election will be necessary. It will be held online via a third-party vendor. In that event, students will be advised as to the next steps.
