La Trobe uses a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) calculation instead of a Grade Point Average (GPA).
A WAM is an average mark that takes into account the credit point value of the subjects that you have completed. It is based on the actual mark of all subjects completed in your course at any given time.
To calculate your WAM:
Sum of (final marks x subject credit points) / sum of total credit points studied
Example:
Final mark | Credit points | Final mark x subject credit points |
83 | 15 | 83 x 15 = 1245 |
69 | 15 | 69 x 15 = 1035 |
75 | 30 | 75 x 30 = 2250 |
95 | 15 | 95 x 15 = 1425 |
74 | 15 | 74 x 15 = 1110 |
67 | 30 | 67 x 30 = 2010 |
120 | 9075 |
- Sum of (final marks x subject credit points) = 9075
- Sum of total credit points studied = 120
- WAM calculation = 9075/120
- WAM = 75.625 therefore 75.63
