We have an exciting update about improvements to the Assessment Adjustments support available to you during your studies.
Commencing today (3 March 2025), the Assessment Procedure – Adjustments (including Special Consideration) has been updated to provide further support and benefits to all students.
We know that unexpected circumstances may at times impact on you and your ability to complete assessments. One of the ways that we support you when these circumstances occur is Assessment Adjustments, including extensions, Special Consideration and exam adjustments.
After consultation with students and staff about how we can better support you, we are excited to launch the below changes to make seeking support much easier.
The three types of Assessment Adjustments
- Short Extension of Time – previously known as Request for Extension
- Special Consideration
- Replacement Examination Date (RED) – previously known as Alternative Assessment Schedule (AAS)
What has changed
- One new StudentOnLine form: to apply for any Assessment Adjustment, submit a request via the new streamlined and consolidated Assessment Adjustment StudentOnLine form. This replaces the previous three (3) forms that you may have used.
- Automatic granting of Short Extension of Time: submissions for a Short Extension of Time submitted up to 11:59 pm on an assessment due date will automatically receive an extension of 3 calendar days. Students with a Learning Access Plan (LAP) will receive an extension of 7 calendar days. There will be no delay receiving your Short Extension of Time outcome, so you can continue your assessment with peace of mind.
- Special Consideration: if you require additional time beyond the automatic 3 calendar days via a Short Extension of Time, you can submit a Special Consideration application via the Assessment Adjustment StudentOnLine form.
- Changes to documentation requirements: documentation requirements are now reduced. No documentation is required for Short Extension of Time submissions (with the exception of LAPs). The compulsory requirement for a Medical Impact Statement has also been removed from Special Consideration applications.
- Consistency in timeframes: all timeframes associated with Assessment Adjustments are now calendar days. This replaces differences between calendar and business days for various Assessment Adjustments and their processes.
The Assessment Adjustments website provides further information about the support available.
