Being infant, child and young people led means challenging the adult centric lens we tend to use in our work with the young. They are also the most amenable to change as their trauma history, such as occurs when exposed to family violence, is often shorter than the adults in their life. Additionally, they are often the reason the parent seeks help, so as to protect their child rather than themselves.
Putting children last on the agenda mimics how we as a sector tend to privilege the voice of the parent over the voice of the child. My message is to make space for children, not to be more important than, but rather as entitled to be as heard as the adult/parent.
