Alumni profile
Michelle Gallaher is the Managing Director and Co-Founder of The Social Science.
She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science from La Trobe, and is a member is the Class of 1989.
Michelle also keeps busy as a Non Executive Director for The Actuator and Cancer Trials Australia, a Director of SkinLife Products and Chair of Women in STEMM.
She says graduating wasn't the only important thing she did in her time at La Trobe.
“One of the most important things I did at La Trobe was fail," Michelle said.
"I got into Applied Science in Allied Health and that’s when I (knew) that was the career for me.
“The business that I founded was based on a realisation that I saw probably five years ago that the transformation of Australian technology was only going to happen if we could sell it. I use social media to tell the stories of success about Australian bio-medical research.
Michelle says she didn't think about advancing her degree with a Masters of PhD when she was studying, but is happy that the perception has changed among students today.
“I’m really delighted to know that young people that are taking up Allied Health at La Trobe have the full suite of research opportunities in front of them, as well as the clinical, as well as the industry connections," she said.
"I think if universities can offer those three very distinct suites of opportunities to students, that’s where everybody wins."
